FDM 3D Printing Overview
FDM is a widely used additive manufacturing technology. It melts thermoplastic filaments
such as PLA, ABS and nylon, extruding material layer by layer to form solid components.
The workflow begins when digital models are sliced into ultra-thin layers. A heated nozzle
(200–300°C, material dependent) melts filament and deposits molten plastic along predefined
paths. Each layer cools and solidifies, bonding to the previous layer until the complete
part is formed.
Production Specifications
Advantages of Accuro Rapid FDM printing
Fast Printing Speed
FDM equipment achieves quicker production compared with many additive technologies to shorten your project cycle.
A Wide Range of Materials
Available materials include ABS, polycarbonate, PCL and PPSU to meet diverse functional requirements.
Excellent Toughness
FDM manufactured parts are robust and durable, ideal for demanding applications such as custom jigs and workholding fixtures.
Suitable for Low-Volume Production
Beyond prototype development, reliable speed and consistent print quality make FDM a practical choice for low-volume serial production.
Applications of FDM printing
Work Holding Tools
Cost-efficient custom jigs and fixtures for manufacturing.
Rapid Prototyping
Tough thermoplastic prototypes for fit and functional testing before tooling.
Production Parts
Chemical-resistant materials for industrial equipment and aerospace components.
Aviation and Aerospace
Lightweight FDM components as metal alternatives, including aircraft interior parts.
FDM 3D printing post-processing
Surface finishing treatments for 3D printed components boost the visual quality, tactile feel and functional properties of manufactured parts. Treatments ranging from surface smoothing to specialized coating elevate visual appeal, strengthen durability and optimize performance, readying components for end-use applications or exhibition.
Smooth
Manual or mechanical sanding to smooth surfaces and minimise visible layer lines.
Spray Painting
Custom colour coating to hide layer lines and improve surface aesthetics.
Inserts
Installation of metal inserts for threads, fasteners, or structural reinforcement.
Assembly
Final assembly combining multiple printed and non-printed parts.
